Character Info (in progress)
Aug. 17th, 2022 10:11 amName: Telan
Age: 27
Species: Human
Occupation: Sorcerer
Gender: non-binary (he/they)
Personality: quiet, thoughtful, withdrawn, intense
Very Simplified History: Telan is a sorcerer, someone born with a rare inherited ability to manipulate the natural world through preternatural means. The sorcerer bloodlines were believed destroyed in a calamity centuries ago, but some remnants survived. Telan is the first known sorcerer to be born in his world's modern era.
He was abandoned as a child. His parentage is unknown. He was raised in a home for orphaned children. At the age of eleven, he was sold into service, as those of unknown parentage/heritage have limited rights in the nation where he was born. Unexpectedly—and seemingly miraculously—he was rescued from servitude by a young man with a strongly developed sense of justice. This led to a short, but wonderful span of freedom before Telan was captured and forced to serve again, separated from his new friend. After this came many long years of service, but when Telan's sorcery awakened, its expression was so sudden and violent that he killed the man he was serving, along with others in the vicinity. It was not his intention to kill, but he knew he would be blamed. Fortunately, this happened in an isolated area, and there were no surviving witnesses. He escaped the scene, wandering in the wilderness until he met someone who could help him.
This person was, surprisingly, a ghost who had preserved his spirit in a stone. He called himself the last survivor of a fallen empire and swore that he would help Telan. He knew a place where he could live, free from interference and servitude. As he had the power of sorcery, he could make his way through the northern wasteland to the ruins of the old empire...
As a result of his past, he is mistrustful and often detached from his emotions. He is not a malicious person, but he is capable of emotional outbursts he finds difficult to control.
Abilities: Sorcery, at its simplest, can be described as using one's mind to alter the natural world. However, the power has a price, and the toll it takes is a physical one. The body is damaged by the effort of sorcery. A small act, such as breaking a stone, might just open a small crack in the surface of the skin. Larger acts of sorcery cause greater damage, and such injuries can be fatal. Telan's strongest natural affinity is for the wind.
World: A land of rising and falling empires and shifting power dynamics, Telan's civilization has not yet charted the entirety of the world. While their continent has been well-explored, where the maps end, mysteries begin. The technology level he is familiar with could roughly be described as "Bronze Age", though since his world developed differently, that's not an exact comparison.
In his world, nature is full of spirits and sentience. All the gods are real, though not everyone believes they are.
